Sinopec Makes Important Breakthrough in Shale Gas Exploration in Sichuan Basin
Jun 17, 2024
Sinopec's deep shale gas exploration in the Sichuan Basin has recently gained major breakthroughs: the Ziyang 2 well in Ziyang City was drilled to a depth of 6,666 meters and tested to produce 1,257,000 cubic meters per day of high-yield industrial gas flow, with a daily unimpeded flow rate of 3,060,000 cubic meters; the Jinpai 3 well in Leshan City was drilled to a depth of 5,850 meters and tested to produce 826,000 cubic meters per day of high-yield industrial gas flow.

The target reservoirs of the above exploratory wells are all Cambrian, with ancient geological age and deeper burial. The high-yield shale gas obtained in many wells and places confirms that the deep and ultra-deep Cambrian shale has the potential to increase reserves on a large scale, and is expected to become a new successor layer of shale gas, which is of great significance to promoting China's shale gas exploration and development and guaranteeing the country's energy security.
