A wellhead desander is a special mechanical device used to separate solids from a well stream and protect upstream equipment such as high and low pressure separators, valves, and gauges. It is designed and manufactured in accordance with API standards for carbon or low alloy steel. It separates sand/solids from the well stream by applying gravity. The machine is widely used in oilfield rejection, cleaning, well testing and oil and gas production.
The cyclone tube of the wellhead desander works by pressure drop. When the multiphase fluid enters the cyclone, the fluid and solid particles rotate under the action of centrifugal force. This powerful force separates liquids from solids. The heavier solids move outward toward the cyclone wall, while the lighter liquid and gas phases move in the opposite direction toward the center of the cyclone.
