China's First Offshore Thermal Recovery Test Area Produces Over 1.2 Million Tons Of Crude Oil

Dec 19, 2024

The cumulative crude oil production of thermal recovery in the southern area of Nanpu 35-2 Oilfield, China's first offshore thermal recovery test area, has exceeded 1.2 million tons. According to reports, Nanpu 35-2 Oilfield is one of the heavy oil fields that was put into development earlier in the Bohai Sea. The viscosity of the crude oil in the southern area of the formation is 400 to 700 millipascals, and the production capacity and recovery rate of conventionally developed oil wells are very low. If heat injection development is simply implemented in the southern area of the oilfield, it is easy to cause heat loss problems due to factors such as the deep burial of crude oil and thin reservoirs in the area, resulting in poor thermal recovery effects. In order to promote the "movement" of heavy oil, production and scientific research personnel continue to advance technical research, carry out a series of tests on multi-element thermal fluid throughput and steam drive development, optimize the formation of a multi-element thermal fluid throughput technology of "hot water + nitrogen + carbon dioxide", and produce the dual positive effects of "viscosity reduction + energy increase", thereby effectively improving the fluidity of heavy oil and making the heavy oil "move" successfully. At present, the multi-element thermal fluid throughput technology has contributed more than 800,000 tons of crude oil to the Nanpu 35-2 oilfield, effectively helping the efficient development of heavy oil in the southern area of the Nanpu 35-2 oilfield. In addition, production and research personnel have scientifically implemented flow field control strategies according to the "wells", and continued to carry out thermal recovery integrated pipe strings and high-temperature plugging new process tests and field applications, so that the crude oil driven by steam and "running" in different directions can flow more smoothly and evenly. It is reported that the flow field control strategy has been used in nearly 30 wells, which has improved the oilfield recovery rate and promoted the continuous "cash-in" of Bohai heavy oil reserves.
