Breaking Through 400 Million Cubic Meters! The Cumulative Output Of A Single Well in Fuling Shale Gas Field Sets A National Record
Dec 11, 2023

On December 11th, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) announced that the cumulative production of the Jiaoye 6-2HF well in the Fuling shale gas field has exceeded 400 million cubic meters, setting a new record for single well production in China's shale gas industry and establishing a new benchmark for the efficient development of shale gas resources.

Located in Jiaoshi town, Fuling district, Chongqing, the Jiaoye 6-2HF well produced an impressive 363,300 cubic meters of industrial gas per day during testing in September 2013 and officially went into production that same month. Now, more than a decade later, the well has become the most "long-lived" and productive shale gas well in the country, with a cumulative production of over 400 million cubic meters.

Shale gas is a type of unconventional natural gas with low permeability, making it difficult to extract and prone to rapid decline in production. The challenge of achieving long-term stable production and efficient development of shale gas is a global problem. Over the past decade, Chinese scientists and engineers have developed six key technologies, including shale gas geological evaluation, development design and optimization, fast drilling of horizontal wells, efficient fracturing of long horizontal wells, supporting gas production processes, and green development methods. These innovations have enabled the Jiaoye 6-2HF well to maintain high production, with a current daily output of 100,000 cubic meters.
As of now, the Fuling shale gas field has 208 wells that have produced over 1 billion cubic meters of gas, with a total production of 34.305 billion cubic meters, accounting for 55.3% of China's shale gas production. These achievements demonstrate the tremendous potential for the development of China's shale gas resources and pave the way for future advancements in human technology.
