The Drilling Depth Of My Country's First 10,000-meter Deep Well Exceeded 8,000 Meters, Heading Towards The 10,000-meter Depth Mark
Nov 17, 2023
On October 26, the drilling depth of my country's first Wanmike exploration well, the deep-seated Taco 1 well in PetroChina's Tarim Oilfield, exceeded the 8,000-meter mark, reaching 8,056 meters, fully entering the stage of drilling difficult formations.

The Shendi Taco 1 well is located in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert, within Shaya County. In the five months since drilling began, all operating indicators have reached excellent levels, setting records such as the deepest penetration of large-size casing and the largest tonnage of casing penetration in my country.
Min Peng, Drilling Director of Deep Tako 1 Well of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield: From our 8,000-meter depth to our extreme depth of 10,000 meters, after the 10,000-meter deep well is drilled, our overall drilling capabilities will move to a new level. steps.

The Deep Taco 1 Well will penetrate more than 10 sets of formations from top to bottom. Drilling ultra-deep wells brings multiple drilling and completion technical limits such as over-heavy loads, ultra-high temperatures, ultra-high pressures, and ultra-high geostress. The Tarim Oilfield uses a chuck with a load capacity of over 1,000 tons, a drill pipe with a tensile strength of 942 tons, and is equipped with a large number of top domestic instruments and equipment such as an electronic multi-point inclinometer with a temperature resistance of 260°C.
Wang Chunsheng, chief technical expert of the Tarim Oilfield of PetroChina, well director of Shendi Tak 1 Well: After drilling to more than 8,000 meters, 80% of the workload may be completed, but the difficulty and complexity of this 80% of the workload may only account for 20%. The next 20% of the workload is 80% difficult.

The Tarim Oilfield plans to break through the 10,000-meter depth mark in 3 to 4 months. The Tarim Basin where Shenzhen Taco 1 Well is located is an ultra-deep oil and gas rich area in my country. The total oil and gas geological resources below 8,000 meters exceed 9 billion tons of oil equivalent, accounting for more than half of the country's ultra-deep resources.
