SINOPEC's Deepest Coalbed Methane Well, Yangjia 1HF, Completed Successfully

Yang Coal 1HF well is the first deep coalbed methane risk exploration horizontal well in China, taking the main coal seam in the Taiyuan Formation, Tai section, as the main target layer, exploring the potential of deep coalbed methane resources in the upper Paleozoic boundary of the Da Niu Di gas field, and striving to realize a breakthrough in production capacity.

As a key project of North China Oil & Gas Company towards "deep coalbed methane project" and a key project of Sinopec in 2022, the deployment and construction of Yangxiang Coal 1HF in Daniu area is of great strategic significance. As the first risk exploration well of North China Branch towards "Deep Earth Project", it plays an important role in exploring deep coalbed methane, verifying the technical feasibility of coalbed horizontal wells, searching for production succession and realizing breakthrough in production capacity of North China Branch.

The oil and gas fields owned by North China Oil & Gas Company in Ordos Basin are rich in coal resources, especially the coal beds that cannot be mined by conventional technology to a depth of 2,000 meters, and the development and utilization of coal bed methane resources has become a "no man's land".

In order to seek sustainable and high-quality development of the enterprise, North China Oil & Gas Branch has planned the industrial development pattern of diversified development and utilization of resources, taking the development and utilization of deep coalbed methane as the preferred project, and last year, it carried out a coalbed methane test using an old well in Da Niu Di gas field, as well as carried out the coalbed methane fracturing construction on an exploratory well in the South China North Basin, which both achieved ideal gas production results.

In order to further realize the exploration potential of deep coalbed methane and promote the development of deep coalbed methane, the branch deployed this first horizontal appraisal well targeting the coalbed in anticipation of a production breakthrough by expanding the coalbed methane drainage area. In order to ensure the smooth construction of the well, the technicians of the engineering institute of the branch have successively selected and dispatched technical backbones for on-site support during the operations of side drilling and cementing to ensure high efficiency, and tested the mud performance one by one to ensure the smooth conversion of the side-drilling drilling fluid to guarantee the safe implementation of the well.

After multi-unit cooperation, multi-departmental communication and coordination, and on-site tracking and decision-making, the drilling and completion of Yang Coal 1HF well was efficiently accomplished, which solidified the foundation for a good start and good steps in the new year's coalbed methane exploration work.
