Advance To The Last 100 Meters! My Country's First Wanmike Exploratory Well Accelerates Excavation During The Spring Festival
Feb 15, 2024
In the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang, more than 100 oil workers continued to work during the Spring Festival, and the tunneling of my country's first Wanmike exploration well, the Deep Tak 1 Well, was accelerating.
The designed drilling depth of the Shenzhen Taco 1 Well is 11,100 meters, and it will penetrate 13 formations from top to bottom. Since drilling started in May last year, it has penetrated 11 formations and set multiple drilling records. Experts told reporters that the underground rock formations are so intricate that in the high-temperature environment below 10,000 meters, drilling tools become as soft as noodles. Drilling a well requires facing multiple drilling and completion technical limitations brought by drilling ultra-deep wells such as over-heavy load, ultra-high temperature, ultra-high pressure, and ultra-high ground stress. At the same time, it is necessary to overcome dozens of problems such as leakage, stuck pipe, and formation collapse.

Wang Chunsheng, chief technical expert of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield: After 10,000 meters, it is an important area for our oil and gas discovery. According to geological predictions, 10,600 meters is our main target layer. In the second half of the year, we will drill to the designed well depth of 11,100 meters to ensure that our well not only fulfills the purpose of our scientific exploration, but also completes the task of oil and gas discovery.
As a strategic succession area for oil and gas resources, deep and ultra-deep layers have become the main areas for major oil and gas discoveries in my country. The Tarim Basin where Shenzhen Taco 1 Well is located is an ultra-deep oil and gas rich area in my country. The total oil and gas geological resources below 8,000 meters exceed 9 billion tons of oil equivalent, accounting for more than half of the country's ultra-deep resources.
