CNOOC Successfully Developed Its First Automatic Control Well Killing System
Jan 06, 2024
On January 5, CNOOC's first automatic well control well control system was successfully developed at the National Offshore Oil and Gas Emergency Rescue Tianjin Base, marking a new breakthrough in my country's automated well control technology and playing an important role in improving the efficiency of well control emergency response and ensuring the safety of offshore oil and gas. Production is of great importance.

According to reports, with the theoretical innovation and technological breakthroughs in exploration and development in the fields of high temperature, high pressure and deep water in my country's offshore oil industry, domestic offshore oil and gas exploration and development efforts have further increased, placing higher requirements on well control and blowout prevention. After three years of research, the CNOOC Well Control Center of the Engineering Technology Branch of CNOOC Energy Development Co., Ltd. independently developed the first automatic control well killing system.

"This system can intelligently calculate formation pressure based on the collected shut-in parameters and combined with drilling data, generate a matching well killing plan, automatically control the killing parameters throughout the entire process, realize scientific well killing, and comprehensively solve the problem of unclear shut-in parameters. It effectively avoids the technical problems in the industry such as inaccurate calculation of formation pressure and unstable control of the well killing process. It effectively avoids the traditional manual control of well killing, which is easy to miss the golden time of well killing disposal, and even cause leakage, well kick, blowout and other situations to occur. It provides Scientific drilling provides support," said Miao Dianyuan, chief engineer of China National Offshore Oil Corporation's Well Control Center.
This system is the first in China to apply artificial intelligence technology to the calculation of formation pressure after overflow. It trains a highly accurate neural network through a large amount of simulation data, quickly obtains formation parameters, and realizes well control of formation pressure from traditional manual calculation to intelligent calculation. A breakthrough in computing.
The most complex aspect of well killing operations is wellbore pressure control. Traditional well killing is performed by manual calculation and manual adjustment of the throttle valve. The error is often large and it is difficult to meet the needs of the narrow pressure window on site. This set of automatic control well killing system has successfully developed an intelligent pressure control algorithm, which can automatically select the most scientific well killing plan according to on-site working conditions, achieve rapid response, precise control, and automatic well killing, effectively shortening the time of well control and disposal, and greatly improving the efficiency of well control. Well killing success rate.
The system has completed 138 controlled well killing tests at the onshore test well site, and all wells were successfully killed. Compared with the traditional manual killing method, the control accuracy reaches more than 90%.
Li Xiaogang, director of the Inspection Office of the CNOOC Well Control Center, said that the system can be deployed in high-risk offshore wells in advance to ensure smooth and orderly well killing operations, effectively prevent the further expansion of overflow incidents, build a solid offshore well control safety barrier, and provide my country's offshore oil and gas Providing strong well control technical support for exploration and development.
