5818 Meters! The Record For The Longest Drilling Footage in One Trip in The Country

Sinopec Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd. (referred to as Petrochemical Machinery for short) independently developed the 9 1/2-inch four-blade KSF fast drilling pioneer diamond drill bit, matched with the self-produced 197 high-torque equal stress screw, and efficiently completed the second drilling operation in the Tarim Repu 901H well. Drilling started, with a single trip footage of 5,818 meters, 304.5 hours of pure drilling, and an average machine speed of 19.1 meters per hour, setting a new record for the longest single trip footage of ultra-deep wells in China.

The Tarim Basin is one of the largest inland basins in my country and is famous for its rich oil and gas resources. Well Repu 901H is an evaluation well deployed in the middle section of the FII16 fault zone in northern Tarim. It is used to identify the type, structural shape, thickness and physical properties of oil and gas reservoirs, and to evaluate the scale, productivity and economic value of the oil and gas fields in the block, thereby establishing Proven reserves.

The technical service team of Petrochemical Machinery Jiangdrilling Co., Ltd. focused on the second drilling of the well, carried out selection evaluation and optimized design, combined with the formation lithology, construction parameters, etc., to customize an integrated solution for drill bits and tools to meet the needs of increasing speed and efficiency of oil and gas drilling.

Since 2023, the four-blade KSF Pioneer series diamond drill bits and high-torque stress screws developed by Petrochemical Machinery have achieved a total of 32 indicators in oil and gas wells in the Tahe Block, Shunbei Block, and Taibasin Block of the Tarim Basin. The results of speed improvement and efficiency are remarkable.
