A surface safety gate valve is a hydraulic or pneumatically actuated fail-safe gate valve used to test oil and gas wells with high flow rates, high pressures, or the presence of H2S. It can be used to quickly shut down wells in the event of overpressure, failure, leakage of downstream equipment, or any other well emergency that requires immediate shutdown.
This surface safety gate valve is typically used with emergency shutdown systems and is usually installed upstream of the throttle manifold. The valve can be manually operated remotely via a button or automatically triggered by a high/low-pressure pilot. The emergency shutdown panel acts as a receiver for the air signal when the remote station is activated. The unit converts this signal into a hydraulic response that bleeds control line pressure out of the actuator and closes the valve.
